The capacitor/condenser is required by the points. No points, no condenser.
If you are using the original coil in the firewall you don't need a ballast resistor.
If you install an aftermarket coil you have to determine whether IT wants a ballast
or not. Usually if they are over about 3 ohms resistance in the primary winding
you don't need a ballast but the data that came with the coil might tell you.
