Regina air intake temp sensor interchange 900

The intake air temp sensor in my Regina 940 fell apart a few months ago (blue plug with sensor came unseated from the black sensor cover) and I superglued it back together. Seemed to work just fine. Last weekend, I started getting a 1-2-2 OBD code, air temp sensor signal absent or faulty. After reseating the connector and clearing the codes, the code returns immediately. So I figured the sensor was toast, and at least the superglue bought me another 6 months. (Come to find out it's not the sensor, it appears the wiring is damaged at a point where it is bent HARD entering the harness on the fender. That repair may turn up in another post, hopefully with photos.)

The air temp sensor is not inexpensive, although not $$$ like an air mass meter on the Bosch cars. FCP sells Genuine Volvo sensor for $58, just a hair below dealer price: http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-air-temperature-sensor-models-with-regina-1389556 That annoyed me, so I went a-googling with that Volvo part number. And struck gold.

Turns out the little sensor Volvo was using in the early 90's was used on other cars later. Mostly Korean crap, but also the Chevy Aveo. Here's the interchange list I consulted: http://www.autopartoo.com/oem/volvo/1389556.html

Went on Rock Auto shopping for a 2006 Chevy Aveo sensor, and found it for a fraction of the price. Ordered Airtex/Wells WS3 5S1119. Outside box is marked "Made in Korea" but part inside is Siemens "Made in France" and absolutely identical to the one that was on the car (and to the junkyard spares which I found, as usual, the day after I ordered the new part). So I got the OEM part for about $7. MSRP at the Chevy dealer is $17, which is STILL a bargain compared to buying one in the little blue box!

hope this tip saves another brickboarder some $$ someday!
