cutting springs

Here is one that is sure to get me accosted: I'm looking for info, not opinions-
When cutting springs what amount should the (right?) spring be cut lower than the other? cutting them both equally left one side of the car ~.5" lower than the other. I had read that this is an issue, however, cannot find where I had read that; likely on tbricks which has been down due to a server change. I am going to replace the original springs with a new set I have around and cut a little less out, and am hoping to do it right the first time based on the current and any info.

A while back I upgraded my struts, and for "fun" cut a couple coils out of each front spring- guess what.... after 2months I can tell you- handling improved, ride is harsh, but all things considered it is OK.

thanks in advance for any insight.
