Does it have a crankshaft position sensor? 200 1989

My neighbor down the street knows that I have had several Volvos. He just sold me his 1989 244 that "hasn't been running in a couple months."

He said he had some guy look at it, and he didn't get it going.

It has the front/detached distributor and the "normal" looking coil.

Just looking at the engine, I see an extra electrical plug at the rear end of the head. Looking back there at the bell housing, I think I see a place to install a crankshaft position sensor, but there isn't one there. (See photos)

So I'm guessing that someone removed it. But how can I tell for sure? I have two 1988 240's and I'm pretty sure that neither of them even have a place in the bell housing to install one.

Does anyone know offhand if they transitioned to a CPS in 1989?

Bob
