Hello all, stumped again. I have the 91 wagon sorted out now, but am still stuck on the 87 244. It idles at approx 900 to 1000 RPM's. I figured the IAC valve was bad so I changed it out with another one. No change. So I tried 2 more.... No change. If I plug in the grounding lead to set the base Idle it will indeed idle very slowly depending on how I adjust it. So.... I adjusted it so it would idle as slow as possible (screwed all the way in) and then ungrounded the plug. It instantly raced back up to 900 to 1000. If I pinch off the hose going from the bellows to the IAC it will go to the correct base idle.
So, I went to plan B and figured maybe the ECU was Telling the IAC valve to idle at 1000, rather than the IAC was just failing to close all the way. I have tried 2 different ECU's and it makes no difference, still wants to idle at 1000. Really annoying because the car has an automatic and you really have to hold her down to keep her from taking off.
I have always thought the Throttle Position sensor was essentially an on/off switch and not a rheostat, but I decided to check it anyway. It does indeed "click" at the moment the throttle is cracked. I checked it with an Ohm meter and I DO have continuity when the throttle is closed and then none the moment it opens. As it should. However, I SHOULD also have continuity at Wide Open Throttle on position 3 and I don't. SInce its not an aircraft I don't think I have ever used WOT anyway, but am wondering if that could cause my problem?
Anyone have any ideas as to why it is idling high? I have ruled out a vacuum leak also, as I have checked all the vacuum lines including the brake booster hose. Any help would be most welcome :)
