940 gas tank seal reuse issue 900

Hi,
Thought I would post this out as an FYI in case someone else may run into the same problem and can order the part in advance.

About 4 months ago, I replaced a fuel pump in my 92 940. I bought a new seal and ring from Volvo. Recently, I had to replace the gas tank sending unit due to a problem that developed with it. I figured I could just reuse the four month old seal and ring. When I went to re-install, the seal had swollen (or stretched) noticeably and was no longer tight around the sending unit- its diameter was too large. I fiddled with it quite a bit but couldn't get it back into the tank. Fortunately, I had saved old (probably original from factory) seal and used it. It was nice and snug and went in well.

Not sure what the issue was. Maybe a different rubber is being used? I did apply some petroleum jelly to ease installation, maybe that caused it? I assume these things would hold up ok once installed as long as you don't need to re-open.
