81' 240 MPG tips and tricks?

Hello all, I'm new to the Brickboard, and was wondering if anyone cloud help me get better fuel economy with my 1981 non-turbo 240 DL.

I average 16-17mpg, per fill up. I absolutely love my car, but I don't make enough to drive it as much as I want to. And tips to improve my fuel economy, and keep a little more money in my pocket would be great!

A few things I plan to do, or have already done;

Got new lighter and lower profile tires, on Virgo wheels
Plan to add plates under the bumpers to improve aerodynamics
Plan to add a wind fairing for my roof rack
Thinking of punching holes in my catalytic converter, friend says that gives you another MPG or two with little to no environmental impact.
Going to look into my fuel mixture, feel like it could be running a little rich. Don't know how to know for sure though.

Thanks for any help!
