1990 740 Base Stereo 700

Uncle Musician,

Please search both the active brickboard active index (for the month) and the archives.

These are Alpine products that use the Alpine M-bus.

The radio that is in your Volvo has both a connection to AMP and EQ? A DIN connector labeled EQ of six or eight pin should be in the back of the radio.

Engage the EQ and it routes line level through it for the EQ effect. The AMP out is also M-bus. Stereo line level (olskool, like 2.5 volts or more?).

The system was integrated. Alpine no-longer makes the M-bus and uses something new.

Your best bet is to use an adapter that integrate a power head unit to the factor speaker wire harness. The tone controls may be inside the power head unit or that head unit may integrate with a separate EQ

The factory speakers if as old as your Volvo should be replaced with modern speakers using new design and materials.

IF you want to keep it stock for the sake of stock or collector value, please research the innumerable articles through the brickboard ARCHIVES.

Under by account you'll find many posts on OEM and Aftermarket stereo matters that may be useful for your Volvo stereo endeavours.

Hope that helps.
