Hi All,

The tent set up wasn't too hard but it was very time consuming. Luckily, my wife helped me so it all went smooth and fast.
My paint guys recommended using the PPG paint over DuPont. I took off a dented fender and brought to them. They scanned it with a digital scanner and selected the color off the fender. They told me the color should match pretty close.
The first base coat came out lousy since I didn't know how to use a HFT spray gun. I was able to correct to more desirable setting on my second coat. The spray gun has a 1.4mm tip so it came out little grainy and spray width wasn't wide enough. A HFT spray trigger was sticking by the time I was painting clear coat. All in all, I was very happy with the end results.
If I were to do it again. I would put an air intake screen and a fan on the bottom not top. The left over spray stayed low to the ground. Also, I would put 2 air screens for better air flow and put a plastic cover sheet on the ground. It was a mess but I was able to clean it. On the painted fender, I only had two dust spots but I was able to buff it out.
tent set up + 3 base coat + 3 clear coat; it took about half day.
On the following weekend, I started wet sanding with 600 grit, than 1000 girt and finish off with 1500 grit. I got rid of all orange peer surfaces. After that, I used a bottle of HDCUT/heavy paint defect leveling cream to make it even smoother.
I put the fender back on the car. The fit and finish looks great except the color is way off for my taste. I am not sure if my friend can tell the difference but I can and drive me crazy. I might go back and mix my own paint which I should have done it in the first place. If I might add, I will probably leave the fender in place when I paint it again.
For now, I need to do final polishing with a bottle of HDPOLISH/high gloss finishing cream. I will see how much I can bring the deep gloss look. It looks beautiful, too bad the color doesn't match. :-(
