So last weekend I made a 4 hour trip from Baltimore to my girlfriend's parents house in the Poconos. About half way, going up a hill I passed a truck engaging the trans kick down; sometime after I noticed the CEL was on. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary (just a little more sluggish than normal) so I kept on motoring until I decided to stop for gas and check it out.
1-4-3 from the EZK, "Knock sensor signal absent or faulty." That was the only code on either CUs. I cleared it, went on my way and arrived without it coming back. The next day I made an hour tip to the pick n pull to check out 4 240s there. On the way the CEL came back on and it was the same 1-4-3. Cleared it, and decided to pulled off the ratchet strap I had installed since it was rubbing on the strut tower after I re-positioned it because my motor mounts are bad (2nd set replaced in 4 years, have Yoshifab ones to go in asap). I thought the strap might have been messing with the knock sensor when it was rubbing so I removed it. Drove to my parents house 2 hrs South for Sunday and another 2hrs back down to Baltimore for the 4th, the code did not reappear.
Now on Wednesday, I made a trip out to a PnP 45min West of Baltimore and on my way back the CEL came on again, same 1-4-3. Cleared and on my way until yesterday it came back when I accelerated hard while trying to get out of downtown traffic (had been crawling for 15-20min). Cleared it when again when I got home.
Synopsis: Code seems to trip after car has reached operating temp and when under high rpm load (I've read the knock sensor isn't really active under 3k rpm).
I have also read this may just be a matter of a faulty connection regarding the KS that only reveals itself under certain conditions. I'm sure the motor flopping around doesn't help this fact.
I plan on replacing the intake gasket, and while doing so, replacing the breather box, heater hoses, and cleaning everything including wiring harness connections. I just want to gather some input on the matter, any would be appreciated.
