Dial AC knob (pre 1990 snowflake switch) 200 1983

AC dial was not functioning.
Removed inspected and adjusted the dial and the micro-switch. The tin hose that runs from the switch to what I think is the expansion valve is my concern. I've read that that tin hose holds "gases" that when cold enough sends a message to the switch to stop the compressors cold air. If that tin tube is broken/cracked and the "gasses" are gone does this pose a problem. Or can the operator just regulate the cold when needed?

All knowledge is appreciated.

Thank you.

Joseph in New Mexico.
