Signs of auto trans failure?? 700 90

This car has 200K on it and runs well, is a turbo and the trany has not always seen good care by PO's. When pulling it up on my ramps to change oil there is a rather strained sound from the transmission, not like my other AW's. Lately there also is a slight tick sound which seems to be comming from the torque converter or that area. First thought the engine might be aging, but my oil pressure is 3 bars at idle, hot---replaced the pump a couple of years ago. This isnt the usual piston slap.

Question: It this set of symptoms indicative of a failing trany? I would rather replace it now than have a roadside failure.

Thanks for any ideas.
