A/C question 900 94

Our A/C went on our 94 960; she's got about 75K on it I guess. The mechanic, whom I trust very much, said he thinks there is a very small leak at the base of the compressor. He couldn't find the actual leak, so he filled it up with refridgerant and now it's okay. He also put a dye in it, so that he can check it later with a black light.

He claims he's seen this before. Apparently the aluminium they use is almost porous, and after time, it will almost "ooze" refrigerant. ANyone else hear of this?

Also, what about sealants that can be pumped in that can seal these kinds of things. That sounds fishy to me. Ummmmm...my baby's babysitter mentioned that approach, so, well, you know...

Thanks.
