Steering Wheel not straight after removing rack and control arms 200 1993

Hi: I have a 1993 240 wagon, B230F engine, 140,000 miles, auto trans.

I just finished replacing my oil pump. I removed the cross member, the anti-sway bar, the front control arms, u-joint from steering shaft to rack, and disconnected the steering rack from the front of the cross member. I left it hanging by the tie-rod ends.

I also replaced the lower ball joints.

I followed the "Bentley" manual religously. The steering wheel is now slightly off. For example, if the top of the wheel should be at a 12 o'clock position, It's now at 11 o'clock.

I plan on getting a front end alignment.

QUESTION?

Will the alignment correct this?

Or do I have to tweek the position of the u-joint? It appears the u-joint only goes one way. It cannot even be rotated 1 spine ridge.

Any suggestion are appreciated.

Thanks.....Mr. Tool
