Hooray!!!! I fixed it
With your help
With all your suggestions (and help with my trusty repair manual) I found the faulty wiring from dash lights to Alternator and oil pressure sender.
It was great to succeed where my mechanic was stumped. Not to mention having the car back on the road. Just one slight problem tho' on inspecting the back of the instrument panel the voltage stabilizer appeared to have a broken terminal. I replaced it with a used one but now the heat and fuel guages are all over the place. I take it the the stabilizer must be defective and will replace it.Thanks to everyone that responded
Cheers
Eric
