Re: Steering Box Replacement 1800 70

The question you have posed is one of the most asked questions for P1800's.There is an article describing Power steering conversion for P1800 using V164 power steering box but the work is quite involved. Rebuilding the box involves getting new roller bearings for the "input shaft"- the worm .

The Drop arm bushes need to be of the correct material and that is oil soaking brass that needs to be cut to the correct size. This material is used in bushes for the starter motor as well and it is unfortunately expensive.

The most problematic of all is play in the roller, The roller gets loose on its mounting on the drop arm and I really dont know if anything can be done about this other than getting a new drop arm.

Good luck
