Ignition lock problem 200 87

I removed and "repaired" the ignition switch today. ( The spring which restores position III to position II had slipped out of it,s seat. )

After I reinstalled the switch, I could not get the key into the lock. There appears to be a tumbler, or piece of metal, right at the key entrance, preventing insertion of the key.

At one point in problem analysis, I gave the lock a shot of WD40. Could this be the source of the problem?

The key was NOT inserted while I removed the switch. It MAY have been there at the outset, but I pulled the key out, after the switch was removed, so I could drive my wife's car.

Any suggestions??
