Hard Shifting Automatic 700 1987

I have recently bought an '87 760 turbo wagon. It is an automatic. It seems to have a very firm shift lock up. Being new to Volvos I am not sure if this is normal or not. Most automatic transmissions seem to be pretty soft when shifting gears. This 760 shift is harder than my Ford 4X4. I have checked the kickdown cable for being too tight. It seems to be okay. The car has 240K km. Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks.

God bless our fallen brothers and sisters.
