If you look at your distributor you will see an arrow pointing

counterclockwise. That is the way the distributor rotor turns.

Turning the distributor counterclockwise retards; clockwise advances.

If you replaced the points you need to check your point dwell.

Yeah, you can set your timing by ear but adjusting it a bit, driving it

till it is warm, then driving up a hill and coming back and adjusting

it again several times is pretty time consuming. That's why I use

the timing light. I can usually find it in less than 2 hours.
