Re: Points vs. electronic ignition 1800 1972

I upgraded to a Crane electronic ignition on my PV and noticed the difference immediately. The neat thing about the Crane system is that it's controlled by a laser so no moving parts touch each other. Hence no wear (theoretically). The other nice thing is that a bit of play in the distributor doesn't affect it. My engine ran smoother the minute I fired it up. It's a relatively simple install, too. The only tricky part is making sure that the laser sender/reader is phased properly, which involves drilling a hole in a distributor cap and checking with a timing light. I'd recommend the system to anyone looking to upgrade. It's available from IPD. Oh, and I think it lists for somewhere around $150.
