760ti idles sometimes above 1000, what tools are needed to adjust idle? 700

hey my 1985 760ti wagon seems to sometimes idle over 1000rpms. it is not roaring over 1000 just a little high. i know there is a black adjustment screw. but i dont want to touch anything and have a mess on trying to fix idle. do i need a dwell meter? i have the haynes manual but it is not the best for info. thanks
