You can't take an M46 out of an 81 240 DL without taking the engine out, can you?

I have the tranny out (finally!). The clutch plate itself was broken. The outside rail that holds the spring in, broke and the spring popped lose. I also think that the clutch arm (that moves the throw out bearing) was not attached on the other end (the ball/socket). If it was, it came off very easly without me even knowing it. I put it back on, and it was not nearly as easy to take off as I had assumed (since it was basically already off). So I'm thinking, one problem cuase the other. Either way, I'm going to work tomorrow and talk it over with the guys (they all work at a truck yard).

There was a small packet of fluid with the clutch kit. Any idea what that is for?

Thanks so much for everyone's help.
