Excessive smoke from 82 240 Diesel Wagon 200

Hi guys,

New member to the board here, thank goodness I found somewhere to ask my questions. I have an 82 240DL Diesel Wagon with 155k mi on it, yet have experienced that there is quite a bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust, even for a diesel. It happens during high revs or low range, high torque times, and even when I let off the gas completley while going at freeway speeds. The car was originally owned and maintained by a Volvo mechanic until I bought it, so it was brought up right, but I cant figure out why the thing smokes so much. Probably the smokiest diesel I know, even more than most semi-trucks.

Any ideas on what could be causing the smoke?

Thanks,
Rotor
