'81 244 bushings shot: can I replace 'em myself? 200

It is time to replace the suspension bushings in my '81 244 DL (stick transmission, non-turbo, 303k miles). I bought IPD's front and rear bushing kits + ball joints last year and made some phone calls. Bad news: none of the local suspension shops want to work on Volvos, and I don't much like the local Volvo dealer's mechanics.

I do all my own maintenance (tuneups, rewiring, valve shims, even an engine swap), so I feel pretty confident about tackling this EXCEPT: one of the manuals said I need a 20-ton hydraulic press, which of course I don't have.

Is the press required? Can I replace the bushings myself? Or should I (gulp) take it to the local Volvo dealer?

Any/all help appreciated. Thanks!
