88-94 Turbo pre-pump into 89 16v a success 700

75 miles and a half tank means you put the strainer on the wrong way and wil continue to get incorrect readings off teh sender. Basically, if you don't put it all in EXACTLY right and make sure its down the sender will ride high. When it rides high it thinks it is sitting at a higher level than it is, and thus the arm's 0 position is 1" off the bottom of the tank.

Basically, this means that you will notice the car drives EXTREMELY well on the reserv tank now, probably because your "reserve tank" comprises 6-7gallons or so. ;)

No worries btw, you can pull it and reseat it at your liesure. The only issue (as long as the filter and elements are in contact with the bottom of the tank and inside the baffles) is that your gauge will read lower than the actual tank.
