Ruff Idle 200

I have a '85 240GL\Auto w/150K. When I start it up cold it has a ruff & low idle & sometimes stalls when put in gear. It is a lot better when warmed up. I think it's the coolant sensor (the one under the intake maniflod #3 cly). I can not get to it unless I take off the intake. Is this right. How do I check it and/or replace it? Do I have to take off the intake?
