???Inner Tie Rod (LF) 82' 245 replacment 200

Any tips on replacing an innner left front tie rod for an 82 245 with rack and pinion steering? Are special tools required? I had a Maryland state inspection done and was told that the tie rod must be replaced. My research into the parts : have to match the exsisting one to one of three possible candidates. I intend to have the vehicle aligned professionally to meet that requirement. How long is the book on this task and does $175 parts and labour sound like the way to go? Thanks.
