AC Blow Off Valve Released

Hi, I need more AC help. I was charging the wifes 945 AC, and noted after about a can and a half of refrigerant, cooling hadn't improved. This seemed unusual because usually 1 can does the trick for a week and a half. After shutting it down, and restarting, I flipped on the compressor and the blow off valve released. OK, so I overcharged it, or there's air in the system or something worse. Question is do I need to add oil to the compressor as on start up it now makes a little noise, but quickly quiets down. Wife is not allowed to use until fixed. Is compressor gone? This got me off my duff to fix the leak, so I have a new condenser and other odds and ends on their way to me. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
