faulty Radio or more serious electrical 200 1989

I am looking at a 91 240 with 80K. The seller advised that the she believes there is a short in the radio. This causes the battery to drain within few days of sitting. ( radio does not shut fully off and snaps and pops can be heard through the speakers.) The solution I am told is to pull the fuse or disconnect the battery( a disconnect switch has been connected to the negative terminal of the battery)) Has anyone had this type of problem? Could I be lucky and it be only the radio which I could replace or does it sound like a more serious electrical problem?? ( I really dont look forward with opening the hood evey place I go and disconnecting the battery) Should I pass this one by and wait for next 240
