Just curious...
I've had my '96 965 (102,000mi) about a month now and have run a few tanks of fuel through it. Based on the displacement (2.9 liters) and the gearing (26 mph/1000rpm in O.D.) I expected about 25-28mpg the way I drive (conditions and my driving habits). That's what I got with my most recent cars (BMW 735i and 535is of 3.4/3.5 liter displacement) and a bit less than I got with my former 528e (2.7 liters/31 mpg). I drive under surburban conditions and am not at all aggressive on the throttle.
I am only getting about 23-25mpg with my 965, however. Not awful, but almost 10% less than I expected, especially in view of the Volvo's Motronic 4.4 system, which is a much more advanced fuel control system than my previous BMWs had. I LOVE my Volvo utility, handling, and decent power. It is worth the "hit" on fuel mileage I am experiencing, but, despite the fact that the engine appears to run flawlessly, if I have a problem and I can improve the mileage, I would certainly do it.
So, what are the rest of you getting with your 960s? Please include your driving style (aggressive/gentle/etc.) and conditions (city/suburban/country/freeway, etc.) to help corelate differences.
