funny looking blower motor wire

Hi folks,
been reading the posts on this board and think you guys are the greatest. Have learned so much and still have much more to learn.

vehicle: 1990 745 non turbo.

blower motor went out the other day on a very hot Southern California day. So I took the blower motor out and hook it up to an external power source and found that it was working just fine.

pinned the problem to the wire that hook up to the blower motor. It appears that one [the one with the coil] of the wires came loose beyond repair and saw that it had some kind of coil on it. is this normal? or has this been modified during the previous owner's tenure? planning to re-solder the whole thing back without the coil but not sure if it wioll work that way.

i have a pic of the odd wire in JPEG if you would like to see.

my e mail is soulsurfereverafter@yahoo.com

any reply is greatly appreciated.

regards

soul
