240 ECU problems 200 1980

If the car runs with the bad ECU unplugged but runs lean can I put voltage on the freq. valve to correct this? What about building a DC pulse circuit like for heater modulation and use this to control the freq. valve? How about just using the fuel distributer from an older system that didnt use the Lambda Sond? I only payed 75 bucks for the car and my son has been driving it for 2 weeks now. he just lets it idel untill it warms up. They want 250 bucks for another ECU and I dont have that much in the car. Sure would be nice if the ECU from that 85 GL would work....
