Smog test results 140-160 1971

So I took the 145 in for smog testing and it wasn't good. There was too much oxygen (O2) to administer the test. Hmmmm.... There's a sizable leak in the exhaust behind the axle. Could that be pulling in too much fresh air before the probe? What else would cause that? The guy suggested it was missing, but I highly doubt that. Sounds like it in the back, but not under the hood. Any ideas?
