Center Console HELP PLEASE 200 1989

It was not a cupholder. European car manufacturers did not add cupholders to their cars until the mid-1990s, when they finally gave in to what europeans consider the distasteful American habit of slurping beverages as we motor down the highway.

There are three rectangular holes in the console. In the rear are the holes for the ash tray and the light that illuminates it. I understand that you are referring to the hole on top, where there was a rectangular cup that snapped in. It is about 4 inches deep and holds cassettes or other small objects, but makes a very poor cupholder. Fifteen year-old Volvo plastic is notoriously brittle. It's surprising that you have a console at all. The rectangular cup no doubt shattered when someone tried to snap it out to clean it.
