I have a 1990 240DL Waggon with a B230F engine. I have 280,00 miles on the car. Recently a rod bearing went out, so I had the engine completely overhauled. The transmission had been shifting badly, so that was rebuilt at the same time. Everything turned out great - ALMOST! If the car is started and driven when the engine is cold (either has not been runnig for a couple of hours or the outside temperature is cold < 20F ) the car starts great and runs great, it is smooth and has plenty of power. If the car has been driven in the last couple of hours, the engine idles rough and the car runs with a loss of power - like insufficient fuel or the timing is not advancing. After the car runs for 20 yards to 1/4 mile it instantly gets power and runs great. There are no codes set. The fuel pressure is good. All the sensors seem to check out. Any sensor that the car can run without has been unplugged and has no effect on the problem. I have been thorough two tanks of gas. The warmer the outside tempature or the motor tempature, the worst the problem. The engine will clear up only after putting in gear (automatic) and driving. ANY SUGGESTIONS? My mechanic (an excellent one!) is trying to a logic flow diagram for the sensors and the two control modules. That is - how they interact when the car is started. Can anyone help with that?
Thanks - Kenneth
