The steering in "project 145" feels just about perfect. It is light and, and there is no play in the wheel. Returns to center just fine....most of the time.
But... If I go around a tight (3/4 of full lock) right corner, it will continue to pull to the right a little until I go around a less than tight left hand corner.
If I go around a tight (3/4 of full lock) left hand corner, it will continue to pull to the left until I go around a less than tight right hand corner.
So...any tight (slow) corner will cause it to continue to pull in that direction until I go the other way.....
Any moderate corners will not cause this, and the car normally goes straight as an arrow.
It doesn't make sence to me... Anything that could cause a pull after a sharp corner should also cause a similar pull after a moderate corner. But that ain't the case.... only sharp corners cause it.
All the parts are original, 117k miles. I checked the upper and lower ball joints for play, the boots were still sealed, still had plenty of grease in them. Steering box had plenty of oil, and feels fine. The idler arm feels OK...though it doesn't have a zirk... I did dump some oil down it as best I could.
But....it seems to me that everything in the steering system that would cause it to bind or pull after a sharp corner would do the same after any corner. If it returns to center after moderate corners, it should do so after sharp ones. But that ain't what its doing...
Or am I missing something?
Thanks again!
