climate control failure 760 700 1987

I HAVE REPLACED THE CLIMATE CONTROL TWICE (used parts). BOTH successful at first but RESULTED IN FAILURE NOTED BY THE BURNT CONTACT IN THE SLIDE FUNTION (rotating) SELECTOR SWITCH. THE SECOND ALSO RESULTED IN A FRIED WIRE (BYPASS FOR THE DEFROST ON MODE) AND THREE CONNECTIONS AT THE CONNECTOR CLIP TO THE SWITCH. ac/heater 30 AMP FUSE IS STILL GOOD. There was evidence of a past fuse socket overheat. I REMOVED THE FUSE ASSEMBLY AND VERIFIED THE CONNETION IS SERVICABLE. STILL NEED TO DIAGNOS SYSTEM. IS IT THE SWITCH OR IS ANOTHER COMPONENT CAUSING THE FAILURE? WHITCH WIRE WOULD BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR AN IN LINE CIRCUIT BREAKER FOR FUTURE PROTECTION?
