B20 Fuel System Anomalies 120-130

Hmmmm where should I begin ...... The other night my son borrowed my 122 to get to work because his Toyota refused to start :-) ...... finally got that going today but it is always fun when the 38 year old car with points and condenser goes and the 13 year old car with HEI won't ..... anyhooooo ..... when he came home, I noticed "Ole Reliable" spluttering .... mind you it was about 0F .... the next evening we were going to go in to Halifax for a movie and got a couple of miles from home and "Ole Reliable" stopped dead in the middle of the road .... anyway what it turned out to be was that the filter screen in the fuel pump had blocked solid as well as the bowl itself was packed full of "gunk" ... probably 20 or so years of accumulation .... anyway .... cleaned out the pump, blew out the gas line, installed new in line filter before the pump .... cleaned out the float bowls and blew out the jets of the HS6sand also drained off about a pint of water and poured in 4 bottles of gasline de-icer, buttoned her back up and away she went .... however, and this is where I start scratching my head ..... now the engine requires choke even when warmed up or it starts bucking and popping back through the carbs ....... Now, it would appear to me, that with all we did, the engine SHOULD be already getting a richer mixture than before it was cleaned out ... so howcome it's demanding CHOKE which I believe would make the mixture richer? Wassup wid dat ??

Anybody got any ideas ? I'm all ears....
