Red Line oil??

In the process of replacing a turbo in my 93 940 T and am finding some strange residue. This car has had a diet of synthetic oil for a long time but is strangely grungy. Doing my usual cleaning with Simple Green the stuff dissolves but comes out red.

Question is: does this oil leave a lot of residue or did the PO not change oil frequently enough? The engine only has 143K on it and am using Mobil 1. Mobil l usually gives a purple cast when cleaning spills with Simple Green. I know that the PO used Red Line, so comments would be welcome.
