leaking at both intake and exhaust manifold gaskets 900 1991

My 940se is struggling-first I have failed smog twice on NOX and the engine struggles after high rpms and then going to low RPS-foot on brake still in drive the engine sputters around 600-900 rpms. The local volvo dealer charged me $140 for diagnosis: gasket leaks on intake and exhaust manifolds as well as plug wire need replacement.
Any suggestions on doing this job including parts to use(brond of gasket)
He had some concern that the bolts holding on the exhaust manifold may be so brittle because of the intese heat -be careful and prepared that it may break. Can a lubricant be put on ? Anything elso to watch for in this job.
My mechanic quoted me $100 for each gasket job(parts and labor). Volvo was alot more! hoping this will help my smog-
