Over drive controll 700 1992

The over drive controll system on my 745t Is not functioning. The car is in OD all the time, but pushing the cut out switch will not disengage the OD. I replaced the OD solenoid. That did not solve the problem. In the process of replacing the solenoid, I was first given an incorrect solenoid. When that solenoid was installed, then OD was cut out, and would not engage. The OD indicator light was on. When I run the car without any solenoid, the OD is disengaged, and the OD indicator light is off. So the mechanism controlling the trans works, & the solenoid is new. Must be the switch in the shifter, correct? How should I check for this? How shoud I go about opening up the shifter & replacing the switch? Or is there something else I should do?
Thanks.
