Hi. I am a first time Volvo owner and first time visitor to this site. I hope someone who has maybe had simliar trouble with their Volvo here can help with a problem I am having. I bought it used from the original owner and it is an 85 240 DL Wagon. I have only had the car for a few weeks and have hardly been able to drive it since I had to do a lot to her to get her passed inspection first.
Now that I can drive it I am having major stall out problems but only in warm to hot weather. (the hotter the weather the worse the problem). It is stalling at intersections after being stopped for a minute or two. Sometimes when I can feel it coming and if I start giving enough gass I can prevent the stall but it is pretty rough going and I have to pump a lot of gass.
The first owner said he had had stall problems over a couple of years but a new fuel pump and changing some connectors? (he wasnt sure which ones exactly) had seemed to solve the problem. I have had the car looked at but it wouldnt stall when I took her in because of the weather. Since then I have heard rumors of other Volvo owners having similar problems. I don't have money right now to go to a mechanic for another opinion so I would really appreciate any of your suggestions or ideas about this problem. Also sometimes after a stall it takes a few times before it restarts and this has happened very inconveniently and dangerously in the middle of intersections before. It seems to be worse and more frequent if I am driving in the city and/ or when the engine has also heated up some (though not overheated).
I have tried fuel injector fluid and adding some oil (though I havent had it changed yet and it may need changing). Could it just need a simple tune up or is there a major problem here? Any ideas?
Thanks so much!!
Athena
