You could also try www.bimmerfest.com Mostly a lot of talk about newer models, but depends what you get.

I used to have a 1980 528i for my "fun" car - it was awesome. If you get a 5-series from the 80's (either an E12 or an E28 model), you could check out a site called www.firstfives.org. Great site for older 5 series (and they can probably point you to other BMW sites that are specific to your model.

Good luck - BMW's are fantastic and drive like nothing else.
