Water Puddle Attack ... Any Ideas? 200

Rained alot today, driving around and unexpectedly came upon a pooled stay of water on the main road. Went through it doing 45 mph, big splash.
Immediately my power dropped and the engine now sounds really loud and rumbles an octave lower. My first thought was that the cold water on hot manifold or exhaust pipes caused a crack, ... that would account for the car being really loud and rumbling low like a V8, ... but then wouldn't i have more power instead of less because there would no longer be back pressure due to cat and muffler? Just thinking aloud. Haven't had a chance to get under the car yet and check it out. Just thought I'd get some ideas from you experts out there.
By the way, ... yes it starts fine, first turn of the key, ... but sounds like a car with no muffler (loud and low), ... no power to the acceleration. All the electrical in the car works fine.

Thanks in advance
