Intermittent Elec. /AC Problem 200

Thanks to all who responded to my Intermittant Elec problem post. I have decided to buy a rebuild.

New issue:

I disconnected my ac lines last year when I replaced front end body parts. I would like to restore. I believe there is a leak somewhere because my AC never fired up(cooled down) like it should've and the Volvo shop wanted first to convert to new refrigerant then check for leaks. Too costly for me at the time, but now if I can do this myself(with your help) it's worth the effort. I read somewhere else about a cheap conversion kit. Is this something in the realm of one who is somewhat mechanically competant.

Any suggestions (including forget it)would be greatly appreciated.

Jim
