Check Engine Light - codes 221 and 231 HELP! 200 1991

miracleman49, I have some late-breaking news. After clearing the codes and starting the car, the codes reappeared almost immediately. Then I cleared the codes and disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes. The car had trouble idling, but no codes and no CE light. I helped the poor thing warm up at idle and then she kept idling on her own. I think the ECU has adpated to whateve is malfunctioning on my car. I then took it for a ride (still no codes), came back and checked for codes (no CE light) and found a 232. 232 does not light up the CE light, but is roughly the same as the 231-221, only it applies to idle, not cruise. In any case. What you may need to to do get rid of your reoccuring 221-231 business is disconnect the battery and then see what happens. Chances are you have taken care of whatever was the cuplrit by replacing the many things you replaced, so you may not get the codes after the "power-down". Let me know how you make out. I think I'll be taking mine to a mechanic tomorrow, as I do not want to start replacing things.

Cheers,
Vladimir
