On Saturday, my mechanic (ex-volvo) and myself replaced the Brake Lines and Hoses on the Front. The Driver's side was the two lines that connect the Calipers to the hoses and the hoses themselves. On the Passenger side, it was one of the lines that runs to the little junction block and one of the hoses (the other had been replaced two weeks earlier. I had to get the brake lines-the nuts had been rounded off.) We had to literally cut the lines and hoses off of the car. We were beginning to bleed the brakes after a terribly ling day (we had also replaced the intank fuel pump & filter). All or most of the fluid in the front end had been drained out from disconnecting and cutting the lines & hoses. We only added about 12 oz. of Brake Fluid to bleed the brakes. We bled each wheel and after about 10-15 minutes, the pedal just went about 6 inches farther down than usual. It does not bottom out and hit the floor. It just goes farther than it has ever gone. The car will stop fine, just the Brake Pedal goes down farther than it should. I tried to check the Vacuum Booster according to Bentley's yesterday and it seems to be working. I pumpedthe brakes with the car off. I turned the car on and the pedal went down as stated in the manual. It went maybe 3-4 inches down. I was thinking that there is still air in the lines and/or not enough fluid to make the brakes work as they should. Or, is it a broken Master Cylinder? Can anyone offer any ideas. My Mechanic suggested the my Master Cylinder was probably shot, but would like some more opinions. I just think there is not enough fluid with air still in the lines. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
