Oh woh is my td. 700

Hi all!

Hope someone out there can help with my troubles....

My '89 740 turbo diesel makes a rattling sound (death rattle??) from the engine at about 90-100kph (sorry, in Finland it's km/h (smile)).

To my unedumacated ear, it sounds like the big-end bearings are on their way out (or there's piston slap...sounds like my old RD 250 2-stroke/cycle bike).

It uses alot of oil, it's an old motor that's done about 450,000kms (ex-taxi) and I'm thinking about putting in a new or low mileage engine, perhaps from a wrecker/car breaker. A problem being I don't wish to pay for the huge sums of hard earned money that business here want (very high labour costs).

Another option is to sell the car as is and buy something that has less troubles.

That would be a shame because the car drives like a limousine otherwise. Lovely.

Any thoughts????

Thanks,
Poe
