85 240 Bucking, Stalling When Cold NO POWER 200 1985

Hello,
I just recently got my 85 240DL. Great car, but it has a terrible problem when first started.

It will stall/buck violently when cold, and you have to brake/torque her to stop it from dying. When gas is applied, there is a great hesitation, and studdering and is very,very difficult to drive.

When the car warms up the problem is nearly remedied, but the car has no power at all.

Timing has been suggest, as well as a bad vacuum leak.

Are there any "common" issues to look for?
