No start problem - Electrically challenged 200 1990

OK that makes sense explaining the loud pop.
Should the car not start after this? Did the battery discharge most of it juice when it sparked & I merely have a weak battery?

I was thinking I had a short to ground somewhere. Key in, dash lights are on but somewhat dimmed. I rotate the key and the lights go out.

I'm still in the dark but did make it home. Thanks for any furthur advice.
